Magnesium is essential for brain and nerve function. It is also vital for hair and horn growth. Many pastures are deficient in magnesium so supplementation is often necessary. Magnesium oxide provides a readily absorbable source of magnesium that can also help neutralise excess stomach acid.
Magnesium supplementation is often used to help calm horses who suffer from anxiety and nervousness. It is also thought to be helpful for horses with poor quality hoof growth and is often recommended for horses exhibiting low-grade foot pain due to poor metabolic function.
Magnesium Oxide is about 50% absorbable, depending on the relative levels of Calcium also present. The advantage of magnesium oxide is that the body will not absorb it if there is no deficiency, so it is difficult to overdose a horse using this source.
Dose Rate:
The normal blood level for Magnesium in horses is 2.2-2.7mg/dl, according to National Research Council in 2007 (NRC), serum magnesium values below 1.6mg/dl are defined as hypomagnesaemia. According to NRC, an intake of 20mg of Magnesium per kilogram of bodyweight per day is necessary to maintain normal blood serum levels. Thus, for a 500kg horse in light to moderate exercise, an intake of 10g per day is necessary to maintain blood levels.

Kohnke's Own Mag-E®
Ideal for working & travelling horses to provide a well absorbed form of magnesium, as well as essential Vitamin E and Vitamin B1, to help nerve and muscle function.
Mag-E® is absorbed more directly into the system, allowing efficient and more effective uptake without competition or interaction from other minerals.
Mag-E® has a higher bioavailability naturally increasing uptake of the magnesium so that nerve and muscle cells can be loaded up with this important mineral avoiding adverse effects of reduced magnesium absorption due to competition from minerals in the small intestine.
Mag-E® has other high quality ingredients that make this supplement even more effective, including antioxidants for nerve and muscle function which have been coated with oil for optimum uptake.
Properties in Mag-E® are absorbed into the muscle cells which in turn work to assist the healing and prevention of damage to muscle fibers and nerve endings.
Mag-E® also contains synergistic, calming ingredients and a base of digestive soothers to calm horses predisposed to a nervous, tense stomach.
Mag-E® is more effective with less stress on the horse's digestive system.
Mag-E® has undergone field trials with 1000's of horses to ensure that it is safe and effective. Mag-E does not contain chemicals or negatively affect the health of your horse if fed over an extended period, will not cause scouring/diarrhoea and is very pallatable.

Eguseed ®
Egusceed is a natural botanical blend of powders which may help to reduce minor stress-related stomach upset in horses.
Egusceed may also be of assistance in controlling damaging free radicals in the body. Excessive free radicals can be the unwanted byproduct of the pressures and strains of heavy workloads requiring increased oxygen metabolism, and of underlying gut issues and feeding problems.

The active ingredient in Luronica is a key component of synovial fluid which gives the fluid its’ “slipperiness” and is odourless, tasteless and should be colourless. The pink colour in Luronica is a vegetable colouring simply to make the product look more appealing. Using Luronica during extended periods of training and competition may be beneficial in supporting the animal’s lubrication needs.
Luronica does not contain any FEI prohibited substances
Luronica comes in 1lt and 4.5 lt sizes. Care should be taken not to contaminate the product when regularly using a syringe to give the dosage. The product can also be applied directly to hard feeds as well if desirable.

Equine-America Apple Lyte Powder (Electrolytes) 2.5kg
An increase in body temperature, either as a result of exercise, travelling or high environmental temperature will cause the horse to sweat. The evaporation of this sweat helps the horse to cool down and regulate his body temperature.
Sweating causes fluid loss, together with the loss of body salts called electrolytes, contained in the sweat.
A horse in moderate work, trotting and cantering, can lose as much as 5-7 litres of fluid, and 50-70g electrolytes in an hour, and this will increase as the work intensity or duration increases, and even more if the weather is hot and humid!
The important electrolytes are:
Sodium and Chloride, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium
Electrolytes play key roles in muscle contraction, the nervous system, and maintaining the fluid balance around cells, and very importantly, the concentration of sodium controls the horse’s thirst response. This is especially notable, as a significant loss of electrolytes can actually reduce the horse’s desire to drink, even when he has lost a large amount of fluid and is at risk of becoming dehydrated.
If the lost fluid and electrolytes are not replaced, the horse will begin to suffer from dehydration, affecting performance and resulting in symptoms of fatigue and reduced exercise tolerance, and ultimately more serious conditions affecting muscles and the ability to perform.
Because horse sweat contains a higher concentration of sodium and chloride than his other body fluids, it is important that electrolytes are provided at the correct concentrations to ensure that the desire to drink is maintained, so fluid balance AND electrolyte losses can be restored to promote recovery, and ensure continued optimum performance. This is especially important during longer show or events, when performance may decline if electrolyte and fluid balance are not restored.
Electrolyte replacement to restore losses and encourage water intake are important for all horses and ponies who sweat – from Pony Club ponies working hard at rallies in the Summer, through to globe-trotting International eventers, showjumpers and dressage horses!
Apple Lytes have been carefully formulated to replace the key electrolytes and encourage drinking to help prevent dehydration and maintain peak performance all season.
Apple Lytes are highly palatable, with an appetising cherry flavour, and should be introduced gradually at home, mixed in feed, building up to the recommended level when required after periods of sweating, with fresh water always available.
Available 2.5 g – 80 days supply
