At it’s core, the combination of MSM, type 2 collagen and manganese combine to reinforce joint cartilage through a three-pronged approach. Type 2 collagen provides the structural framework for cartilage development. Manganese is a co-factor for glucosamine production, a structural subunit, that, with the help of MSM’s sulphur, combine to form glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) which bind to the collagen matrix to form strong but functional cartilage.

Hyaluronic acid is another GAG which specifically aids synovial fluid viscosity, supports articular cartilage elasticity and assists lubrication between articular cartilage surfaces.

We are pleased to confirm that that there is no difference in the magnesium levels, or the chemical source of the magnesium used (magnesium oxide – MgO), only in the physical form of MgO we are now using.

This change in physical form (to the slightly more granular form, with a pale beige colour) has arisen because we are delighted to report that we are now manufacturing the Equine America (UK) products in the UK, using certified facilities with the highest standards of safety and production. Although Equine America (UK) products have always been free from prohibited substances, our new UFAS and BETA NOPS certifications will provide further reassurance in the light of the recent high profile prohibited substances cases, giving our customers peace of mind regarding FEI, BEF and BHA prohibited substances, enabling full traceability.

In order to comply with the rules and regulations regarding these certifications, we are only able to use certain suppliers, who are also certified, and have had to make a change to our supply of magnesium oxide, so we are now using the lower dust, slightly granular form, which is pale beige.

Turmeric

Turmericle contains a blend of two different species of turmeric to optimise the benefits they both offer. Curcuma xanthorrhiza, has been used as a traditional medicinal plant in some tropical countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia. It contains the xanthorrhizal oil which confers unusual benefits.

PowerStance® powdered coconut oil

PowerStance is powdered coconut oil designed to make feeding oil easy. Coconut oil contains high levels of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) which provide the body with a readily available source of lauric acid,. The benefits of supplementing animals with coconut oil may include improved digestive health, enhanced coat and skin condition. Coconut oil is absorbed direclly into the portal blood, and therefore is metabolised faster than other oils.

Ground Black Pepper

Curcumin is treated as a foreign substance by the liver. It is therefore rapidly metabolised and excreted.  Piperine in black pepper blocks curcumin excretion by the liver and increases curcumin bioavailability.  Piperine activity is reduced in sunlight.  Turmericle must be stored in a sealed container to maintain the efficacy of the back pepper.

How does congestion occur?

Airways in horses become congested in response to airborne particles such as dust, pollen and moulds.

It is crucial to free the airway of inhaled particulates and also to ward of the potential for secondary bacterial infections.

Blocked or congested airways not only cause distress but can, in turn, cause chronic or acute conditions such as heaves to equine pneumonia.

Mucous can also be triggered in response to an allergen.

This is the bodies attempt to capture the particles where the body can then remove.

However, when congestion is thick it may need the help of a product like Expel to assist in removal.

It is best practise to reduce the mucus and take practical steps to reduce allergens.
