About Kentucky Equine Research

Kentucky Equine Research (KER) is a world leader in equine nutrition, trusted by national federations, elite athletes, and dedicated horse owners across the globe. With expertise spanning equine nutrition science, international logistics, and feed manufacturing partnerships on six continents, KER is uniquely positioned to support horses at every level — from the backyard paddock to the Olympic arena.

The Force Behind International Competition

For more than 20 years, Kentucky Equine Research has been the force behind the scenes at the world's most prestigious international equestrian competitions, managing feed, forage, and bedding to ensure competing horses have consistent, quality nutrition upon arrival and throughout the event.

Horse owners know that consistency is key to feeding and managing healthy horses — especially during travel and competition. When show schedules take horses across international borders, biosecurity concerns and import procedures make staying on familiar feed a real challenge. KER has a long history of helping national federations and athletes navigate this process at events around the world.

A Track Record at the Highest Level

KER's international competition experience has yielded some fascinating insights into how elite sport horses are fed and managed:

  • At the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, KER handled 79 orders for powder electrolytes, 263 electrolyte pastes, and 89 salt blocks as teams prepared horses for the heat and humidity.
  • At the Hong Kong Olympics, horses consumed over eleven tons of fresh New Zealand and Australian carrots — averaging nearly 2.4 kg per horse per day.
  • At WEG 2018, teams used 8,785 lb of apples and 19,700 lb of carrots — a running total of 14.2 tons of treats.
  • At WEG 2010 in Kentucky, over 11,000 bags of pine shavings were used for bedding, alongside 88 tons of timothy hay consumed by horses from 27 federations.

From Olympic Games to World Championships, Kentucky Equine Research brings unmatched expertise and a genuine passion for equine health to every competition they support.
