Sunflower Seed 2KG (For Horses and Hook Beaked Birds)
For HORSES:
Sunflower seeds have become commonplace in feed rooms. They are a rich source of fat that may promote skin health, a shiny coat, and perhaps even weight gain in horses.
Are all sunflower seeds the same? Of course not. Classic sunflower seeds, like those consumed at sporting events and used in the bakery industry, are non-oil seeds that aren’t typically fed to horses. Black oil sunflower seeds, are more commonly fed to horses due to their higher oil content, better digestibility, and lower cost. Black oil Sunflower seeds have thinner hulls that are held more tightly to the kernel when compared to the thicker, non-oil seeds. Thinner hulls make Black oil sunflower seeds easier for horses to chew and digest.
Are sunflower seeds safe for horses? The answer is yes, although ideal feeding rates have not been studied. Small amounts (2-4 oz/day, about 56-133 grams) are typically consumed by horses without complications and can provide some supplemental calories. Black oil sunflower seeds are even included as an ingredient in some commercial horse feeds.
Black Oil Sunflower Seeds contain 40-50% oil and are rich in omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are important for the inflammatory immune response and for cell integrity, the latter of which may support skin health. Because modern diets, especially those that contain concentrates, tend to be already high in omega-6s, the addition of omega-3s will help bring the balance of omegas into desirable proportion. To keep the omega-6 and omega-3 ratio in balance, an uptick in beneficial omega-3 fatty acids can be achieved through the addition of fish oil, like EO-3, to the diet. EO-3 contains direct sources of DHA and EPA, two important omega-3s.
The additional fat may help improve coat condition. In addition, sunflower oil is a rich source of vitamin E, a potent antioxidant. For horses that are not allowed to graze fresh pasture, it is always best to supplement with a natural-source vitamin E product, like Nano-E.
While Black oil sunflower seeds contain a considerable amount of protein, they are low in the essential amino acid lysine, which is necessary for growth. Therefore, Black sunflower seeds is a valued supplement but should not be the main dietary protein source.
Black oil sunflower seeds has become popular for supporting shiny coats and overall condition. In moderation, Black oil sunflower seeds can be a supplemental part of a balanced diet for the horse.

WHY CHOOSE NEUTRADEX®?
Scientifically balanced formulation for race recovery, tying up and hard exercise
Neutralises damaging acid build-up – NEUTRADEX® contains sodium acid citrate, a natural bicarbonate precursor to increase the body’s natural stores and actively helps neutralise lactic acid before it causes damage.
Improves hydration, appetite and overall recovery after hard exercise
Replaces essential sodium salts lost in sweat
COMPOSITION
Each 28 mL dose contains:
Sodium acid citrate 7.93 g
DOSAGE & DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Horses (450 - 500 kg)
28 mL of NEUTRADEX® added to the feed daily. Following hard or fast work or racing, give 50 mL NEUTRADEX® orally (by syringe over the back of the tongue). Horses suffering from dehydration need a supplementary daily ration of electrolytes.
To Help Prevent Tying Up
Give additional 30 mL by mouth after every workout or slow work and increase to 50 mL after any hard work (if horses are prone to muscle soreness and tying up).
To Maintain Thirst on Fast Work Days
Give 50 mL NEUTRADEX® over the tongue as soon as possible after very hard or fast exercise to neutralise acid and stimulate drinking.

PRECAUTIONS
Ensure an adequate supply of cool, clean water is accessible. NEUTRADEX® exerts a mild diuretic and neutralising effect on acidic substances which accumulate in the muscles and blood stream. Metabolic acidosis may impair normal muscular function, thereby interfering with performance. Dehydration, which can cause sluggish blood flow and impaired tissue oxygenation, can be effectively assisted by the administration of NEUTRADEX®. In horses, NEUTRADEX® may also be prescribed as a co-treatment in kidney, bladder and urinary tract infections.
Use immediately after hard work and after warm down exercise is completed, for one to two days. Add to the feed daily or give over the tongue. Ensure fresh water is available at all times after dosing. Use only as directed.
The active constituents in Neutradex are not, to our knowledge, prohibited substances in any racing or competition jurisdictions. However users are encouraged to check with their respective authority prior to the use of any supplement or medication.
PACK SIZES
NEUTRADEX® is available in 1L bottles, 5L casks and 20L drums.
Equine Performance Electrolytes
Supplementing horses with electrolytes is vital to the health and welfare of the horse. A horse that develops sweat will need replacement of the salts lost in that sweat. The harder a horse is working, or the hotter the conditions – the greater the loss of salts and minerals.
The highest levels lost in sweat are sodium, chloride and potassium. Small amounts of calcium and magnesium are also expelled and smaller amounts of other trace minerals. These losses can result in the horse not being able to maintain the correct cellular fluid levels.
Imbalanced and low fluid levels can result in ineffective transmission of nerve impulses and also muscle contractions. Insufficient electrolytic levels will result in early fatigue and reduced stamina. In extreme cases a horse will lose the desire to drink water, thus compounding the detrimental effects on their health and more severe symptoms such as unco-ordinated movements, muscle weakness and sometimes trembling.
Vetpro has developed a specialist pH neutral electrolyte formulation with higher levels for horses in hard work such as racing and endurance and eventing. Or horses working in very hot conditions.
Vetpro Performance Electrolytes are a neutral pH composition. The idea of acid and alkaline electrolyte supplements is now regarded by equine physiologists to be unnecessary. Horses can develop a mild metabolic acidosis after intense exercise and may develop a metabolic alkalosis in situations of heavy sweat loss. In both these cases so long as there is sufficient chloride in the DEB then the horses kidneys will sort out its own acid/base balance.

Lysine-T
Vetpro Lysine-T is an amino acid supplement which contains the essential amino acids Lysine and Threonine. Scientific research has shown that young horses show improved growth, and older horses can show improved muscle mass, plus horses in work (particularly low carbohydrate/high fat/low forage diets) benefit from Lysine and Threonine supplementation.
In summary where to use Vetpro Lysine-T:
- In the young growing horse to maximise growth rates.
- In the active horse used for moderate to heavy work.
- In horses where the increase of protein may result in the horse blowing, overheating and producing high ammonia in the urine.
- In the older horse to maintain its muscle mass, where increasing protein in the diet is often not appropriate due to digestibility being difficult in the aged horse.
Cells need energy – energy to drive muscles, digest food, transmit nerve impulses. The byproducts of cellular energy production are waste products called peroxides. These are particularly important in the athletic horse, whose musculoskeletal system demands a huge amount of energy. Unless the peroxides are neutralised muscle damage will occur.
Antioxidants work to neutralise these peroxides. One of the most important antioxidants in the body is the Selenium containing enzyme Glutathione Peroxidase. This makes Selenium an extremely important trace element.
New Zealand soils are generally low in Selenium. In fact over 30% of farmland is deficient. Dietary supplementation is the only way to ensure adequate intakes.
Selenium is usually given in general mixes as Sodium Selenite the inorganic form. This may be sufficient for the daily requirement in areas with good levels of selenium in the soil but problems can occur with poor absorption due to competition with other minerals. The liquid form of Selenium is potentially extremely toxic if too much is given, the dose rate is very small and therefore can be easily overdosed, or since it is often not a daily dose, it can also be forgotten.
Chelation is a process by which a mineral is bound to an easily absorbed organic molecule, allowing much better absorption and utilisation of the mineral. Equine Selenium K contains Selenium EDTA, a new form of Chelated Selenium.
It is well known that daily supplementation is the most efficient way to administer Selenium. One 15 gram dose of Selenium K provides 1.66mg of available Selenium, this being the optimal level for an adult horse. It is an easy efficient non toxic way of ensuring correct selenium levels. Broodmares should also receive Selenium K in the breeding season as it is known to help increase fertility.
Equine Selenium K is in a Kelp base. Kelp meal is a natural feed supplement derived from a seaweed found only in the North Atlantic Ocean. Rich in micronutrients; it contains over 30 minerals including Boron, Molybdenum, Iodine, Sulphur and Iron, 12 Vitamins, 18 Amino Acids as well as high levels of Alginic Acid.

Is the latest development from Veterinary Professional Services Ltd, this nutraceutical has been formulated using the latest science on the problems of obesity in horse plus provide gut support for all horses in stressful situations.
Vetpro Gut-Biotic – contains Prebiotic and Probiotic actives that in line with the science, will improve the horses gut Microbiome to be restored and hence directly assist the health of the horse. The good bacteria in the gut of a horse are very important to the overall health of the horse. A horse is vulnerable to the changes that can occur in the balance and quality of that bacteria (called the microbiome), and that change will negatively affect the processing of food and therefore the wellbeing of the horse. Changes can occur for many reasons, usually stress or illness related.
Providing both a Probiotic and Prebiotics will assist with establishing a gut microflora at times when it may be naturally depleted by excessive workload, stress, long distance travel, changes in diet or grazing conditions, ill health and antibiotics.
Also overweight horses if left unresolved, can develop Insulin Resistance (IR), which creates metabolic and health complications, such as Laminitis, EMS (Equine Metabolic Syndrome). Science has proved that feeding a short chained fructo-oligosaccharide does help reduce that possibility.
When does a horse need Vetpro Gut-Biotic:
• Overweight horses to help prevent onset of insulin resistance and its consequences
• Underweight horses to improve the gut flora to process food efficiently and aid weight gain
• Horses in hard work and competition to help maintain good gut function under that stress
• Horses that are unwell and especially those on antibiotics
• Horses that show signs of diarrhea
• Horses that are undergoing long distance travel
• Horses that have to change their diet, especially change of grazing
Store in a cool dry place and always reseal the pouch after use.

Not available in the UK
Additional calcium is required for:
- Pregnant mares to build the skeleton (and other tissues) of the unborn foal
- Lactating mares especially until the foal is about 3 months old. Young foals take virtually all their nutrition from their mother's milk. For instance if Mum doesn't receive enough calcium from her diet then it is dragged out of her bones to supply the needs of the growing foal. This is detrimental to her long term health and means the foal may not get all he requires to be strong and healthy
- Horses that are working hard suffer a lot of 'wear and tear' and can lose calcium in their sweat
- Oxalates present in certain grasses, (especially kikuyu in New Zealand) bind up the calcium making it unavailable to the horse. The organic calcium in Xtra Cal is already bound so cannot be bound by oxalates and is therefore available to the horse.
* Pregnant and lactating mares that are also grazing oxalate grasses are very vulnerable to calcium deficiency.
