Suitable for all horses that require a high protein feed to supplement pasture.
Grass Saver Pellets are high in protein and designed to be fed over winter when hay is the horse’s main source of roughage, or during dry summer months when the nutritional value of the pasture is poor. During spring and autumn when grass is naturally higher in protein, Grass Saver should be fed bulked out with chaff or other high fibre feeds.
A high protein, medium energy maintenance feed, Grass Saver is based around the recognised cool feed material copra. This provides a quality ingredient that is high in both fat and fibre. Grass Saver Pellets include a full vitamin and trace mineral premix, and are an ideal supplement to be fed with hay.
Typical Analysis (Dry Matter Basis)
Crude Protein 18%
Ingredients Selected From
Copra Meal, Broll, Barley, Lime, Salt, Zeolite, Magnesium Oxide, Mycoguard, Vitamins and Trace Minerals
Feeding Recommendations
Winter/Summer – 2kg to a maximum of 4.5kg per day, fed with hay
Autumn/Spring – 1.5kg to a maximum 2.5kg per day, fed with chaff
Additional vitamin and mineral supplements are not recommended while feeding Grass Saver (except under a veterinarian’s advice) due to the inclusion of a full horse vitamin and trace mineral premix in the pellets.
Caution: Grass Saver Pellets are not suitable to feed to sheep, due to the high copper levels associated with the horse vitamin and trace mineral premix included in the feed.

Sodium is the main electrolyte found in the blood and the fluid surrounding cells. If sodium levels are low, the blood won't hold enough water.
This causes the adrenal gland to release the hormone aldosterone, which tells the kidneys: "Don't let any sodium leave the body!" When the kidneys hold on to sodium, they excrete potassium in its place, creating an imbalance. Inadequate sodium intake can promote or aggravate conditions such as anhydrosis (lack of or inadequate sweating), tying up (a muscular disorder resulting in stiff and/or trembling muscles after exertion) and a rapid heart rate.
It can also influence the horse to avoid drinking water as the body seeks to keep from flushing away sodium. (And inadequate water consumption is always a risk factor for impaction colic).
Layer Pellets
Takanini Feeds Layer Pellets are designed as an economical pellet for free range, backyard chickens that are getting their diet supplemented with household food scraps.
These layer pellets contain vitamins and minerals suitable for backyard chickens.

Please note that these pellets are not suitable for commercial poultry operations.

Feed Wheat
Whole wheat, a high energy feed
A high energy grain, which may be fed whole to poultry, sheep and goats but requires processing prior to feeding cattle, camelids, pigs and horses.
Feeding Recommendation
Feed Wheat is not a complete feed and should only be offered as a supplement to other feeds as part of a complete diet suitable for the type of animal being fed.
For pigs and poultry ensure adequate protein is available as part of the diet.
For horses and ruminants (cattle, sheep, goats, deer and camelids) ensure adequate pasture, silage or hay is always available.
Always introduce new feeds gradually.
Ensure clean fresh water is always available.

Sheep, goats or cattle needing extra condition for any reason will benefit from Economy Pellets, and they are the ideal complement to hay during winter and summer months.
Typical Analysis (Dry Matter Basis)

*Note that the inclusion of Biscuit Meal may lead to some variation in the level due to the natural variation of protein and energy levels in the Biscuit Meal blends.

Feeding Recommendations
Sheep – up to 100g per animal per day
Goats – up to 200g per animal per day

Care should be taken not to overfeed animals with Economy Pellets, as they are highly digestible and ‘free feeding’ on demand may cause acidosis.

Why Salt Blocks?
Animals have sought salt since the beginning of time, gathering at salt licks to satisfy their need for salt. Many New Zealand soils and pastures are naturally low in available sodium, and the use of certain fertilisers, such as Potash, may accelerate the leaching process.
Sodium deficiencies are manifested as abnormal licking or chewing of wood, soil and sweat of other animals and may be accompanied by a decline in growth rates and/or milk production.
Common Salt (sodium chloride) is an essential constituent of animal diet. Because many New Zealand pastures are deficient in sodium some form of supplementation is often necessary. For instance, lactating cows need a daily minimum of 20gms of sodium chloride, dry cattle a minimum of 10gms and sheep a minimum of 2gms.
Sodium is routinely expelled from the body in milk, urine, faeces, sweat and saliva. Sodium should be available to farm animals every day and because of this, is a convenient carrier of other minerals.
Salt may be one of the most cost effective methods of increasing production.
Sodium in some form should be available at all times all year round
Dairy cows’ salt requirements significantly increase when lactating, as large amounts of sodium are excreted in milk
Young animals in rapid growth need sodium for new tissue formation
When sodium is deficient, appetite is suppressed
Trials prove Summit® Salt Blocks last nearly 4 times longer than loose rock salt and require twice as much rainfall before broken down by the elements.
Compact 20kg Summit® Salt Blocks are easy to stack, handle and dispense.
Elements:
New Zealand dairy cows grazing pasture are most susceptible to deficiencies of cobalt, copper, iodine, and selenium.
Zinc supplementation is also important for immunity and hoof health.
Trace mineral deficiencies may induce problems such as abortions, retained placentas, mastitis, and infertility.
Summit Salt – No.1 Choice Throughout New Zealand.
