These effects are due to honey’s anti-bacterial action, secondary to its high acidity, osmotic effect, antioxidant content and hydrogen peroxide content. The anti-microbial action is different to synthetic medications as it works by attacking the cell wall of the bacteria. It also has high acidity with a pH of 4.4, the effect of which speeds up healing and reduces infection which occurs at a higher pH. The anti-microbial honey in Honey Wound Wax can kill or inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria as well as viruses and fungi. It also reduces wound inflammation, therefore reducing oedema and exudates.

Honey Wound Wax contains Jarrah and Red gum honey (monofloral), which is measured on the international TA scale and has the added benefit over Manuka honey in that it is anti-microbial – not just anti-bacterial.

Beeswax has also been used for centuries to help healing. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity both against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria, and this is enhanced when added to honey. It is also effective against the yeast Candida albicans. Beeswax is high in Vitamin A which has been found to support cell reconstruction and health. It is also used as a salve for skin dermatitis.

Wounds heal best when kept moist, the beeswax helps to seal the wound to prevent drying out, while its natural structure prevents clogging.

As a combination Honey Wound Wax is ideal for all those minor wounds, scrapes and skin irritations.
